The environment plays a big part in Systemic
Lupus Erythematosus. It is thought that a number of environmental factors can
trigger lupus such as, sunlight (UV light), certain medicines, and chemicals in
the atmosphere, food additives, hormones, stress viruses and some genes that
are inherited from our parents.

Lupus can have a big effect on the mind and brain. The illness itself can make us
feel depressed and anxious. The body can also attack the brain leading to fits
and loss of memory, which can be very daunting for the sufferer.

It is not just the sufferer that lives with Lupus. The sufferer’s family and friends
also experience the highs and lows of the Lupus symptoms. This can have a
drastic effect on family members and friends.
